London presentation this Thursday
Django cocreator Simon Willison, now a Yahoo employee, will be presenting Django to 200+ people in London on Thursday. Here's more information.
Looks like two other frameworks will also be presented: Perl's Catalyst framework, and some Ruby thing.

Just back from the excellent presentation of Django by Simon! Only wish could travel to Chicago now... After seeing what is possible, this weekend is sure going to be busy!

This was a terrific presentation. Can someone explain why Rails gets all the publicity? It's everywhere, but I'd never heard of Django before. I was extremely impressed by what I saw - those admin screens!

Rails was the first next-generation web app framework out of the door that was supported by a proper marketing effort. It also helps that it's extremely elegant and well designed. Not having much competition from elsewhere in the Ruby community has helped a lot as well - while Python web frameworks are fragmented, the Ruby guys are pretty much all behind one strong contender.
