Five-week Django training in Chicago
It's come to our attention that DePaul University in the beautiful city of Chicago is holding a five-week Django course.
Here's more info, directly from the source:
We are pleased to introduce our latest certificate program, the Web Development with Python and Django Program. This program will focus on rapid and efficient development of Web applications using LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and Python) and Django. The program deals with Apache, MySQL and Python as a generic platform, and deals with Django as a specific example of a modern, integrated Web development framework. We will cover installation, configuration, programming and deployment of these tools with particular focus on security and business continuity. The program is designed for application developers, system analysts, database administrators, and technical support professionals. Prospective students should have a solid programming background that includes Web development experience, and basic knowledge of systems administration.
The fall session of the Web Development with Python and Django Program is scheduled to meet on five Thursday evenings at DePaul's Loop Campus, beginning on September 28th. In addition, there is an option to enroll in an online section instead of the on-campus section. More details about this program may be found at http://ipd.cti.depaul.edu/wdpd/Prog_wdpd.htm.

Odd that "testing" isn't mentioned, unless everyone knows that it's a programming task now. ;-)

I want to come to the US ( from the Caribbean) to attend this course, but do not know Chicago and would need a place to stay that is safe, reasonably priced and fairly close to the course venue. I would be grateful to any one who can recommend such a lodging.
Also, in general I would like to know what my living expenses would be for the period.
In summary I would like to know:
Accommadation cost
Travel cost
Food and incidental costs
Over a six week period.
(I actually prefer the 'live session' to the online version of the course, as would like to meet people who also work with Python, Apache & Django.)
Any info is welcomed.
Best Ever,
Ycoci

Thank you all for the interest in this course. Feel free to post questions and I will be happy to answer them since I will teach it.
This course is relatively introductory since most of the students enrolled do not have much Linux experience. I will probably take one day to cover Python, one day Linux, three days on Django. A lot of the time will go on installation issues and configuration.
The course is mainly for those programmers who are not familiar with Python and Django and want to learn it.
We believe Python is an excellent language and we will use it, since 2007, in our intro CS classes.
We also believe that Django is an excellent framework for fast and secure web development. We wish for a 1.0 release soon.
Testing is not mentioned but is covered. I will cover the doctest module.
Six weeks in Chicago can be expensive. I live in Oak Park, 30 minutes by L to downtown were class is held. It is possible to find accommodation for around $1000. Budget $20-30/meal and $100 for public transportation.

Massimo,
I was hoping to share with others who really know Python well and that the course would give students a fairly good knowledge of Django, but I know these technologies and have already developed a full-fledged site in Django .91, run my own Debian server etc.
Are you saying that this course is not for me?
What version are you teaching? What about assignments? And MySQL?
I was sort of looking for a Cert to show as well.
Massimo September 21, 2006 at 4:56 p.m.
I am teaching version 0.95 but I remind you that I am not assuming previous knowledge of Linux, MySQL or Python, therefore I will spend most of the time covering those.
I am planning to cover in some depth the Python programming language (Django aside), the Django SQL API and the Django template language.
The assignment will be to setup a functional Django web site working.

Massimo...I'm interested in having someone develop an ecconomical web site for me. Would need design and programing. Am in Oak Park area. Do you know of an up and coming person that I may work with?

Decided not to come to this course after all.
Intend to ungrade to 0.95 within a month of so.
Best,
Ycoci
