IBM Developer Works article
IBM Developer Works has posted an article about Django:
In this first article of a two-part series, we show off Django, an open-source model-view-controller (MVC)-style Web application framework powered by the Python programming language. With Django, you can create high-quality, easy-to-maintain, database-driven Web applications in minutes.

This is great. Glad to see some mainstream recognition.

This is really great to show that Django has steam behind it and is not just another lonely web framework!

I found this "IBM Developer Works" article more readable and understandable for a complete django newbie than these who are contributed here.
I cannot tell you exactly why, but I got a better point how to start, from this article.
Something to learn from the author of these article, for the documentation team? ;)
If the follow-up article, which will cover TurboGears, is as good as this article, I think I will me more able to compare these two promising project - because if I decide, I will stick with it.
Apropos: The 1.0 Release seems to be really soon there, is there an exactly date for Django also?

I agree with markus.
For me the poiNt is that THE article is more schematic than the tutorial
here.
But don't misunderstand my words, the tutorialS are great but for a newbie they are perhaps too verbose.
