The DSF supports Getting Started With Django
As a community, we've always valued documentation - no feature is added to Django without accompanying documentation. Documentation improvements are frequently accepted independent of feature work.
When Django was initially released in 2005, screencasts were a fairly new - used for pitching (or demoing) a product in a short, effective way. They were a good bit of work to produce, and we knew changes were coming - so we waited for Django 1.0. When 1.0 was released in 2008, Django had already had some signicant acceptance, and screencasts seemed a little passé.
But somehow we've made it 7 years without a richer introduction to the framework. The tutorial covers only a small part of the rich framework that Django's grown into, promising more help "coming soon".
Thankfully, Kenneth Love has stepped up with a Kickstarter campaign to produce a series of videos: Getting Started With Django. The DSF is proud to join the community's support of this project by donating $2,000 towards the campaign - helping to reach the first stretch goal of making the videos free for download.
